BEBE NACRE nursing shells

A valuable tool to facilitate the establishment of breastfeeding.

NIPPLE CARE AND PROTECTION

DURING BREASTFEEDING

Nursing shells have become a popular accessory among breastfeeding mothers. They offer many benefits, but it's normal to have questions about them. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about nursing shells.

What are the benefits of breastfeeding shells?

Nursing shells are designed to protect sensitive nipples from unpleasant friction with bras and pads.

They help keep nipples in contact with breast milk. They are ideal for caring for cracked nipples.

How to use nursing shells?

Breast shells are easy to use. Simply place them gently over the nipple, ensuring they fit snugly. They can be worn under your bra and washed regularly to ensure optimal hygiene, with warm water and mild soap after each use.

How do I choose the size of my nursing shells?

You can choose the size of your shells based on the length of your nipples. This can be done visually. On our online store, we offer custom-made shells. You can directly provide us with your measurements, and we will select a pair that fits your body shape.

Your nursing shells should cover especially the nipples and their contours which are the most sensitive parts due to repeated feedings.

If your shells are a little wider or smaller than your entire areola, this will not prevent them from being effective.

When should I buy my nursing shells?

You can order them from the third trimester of your pregnancy.

Is it possible to use breastfeeding shells before birth?

Yes.

If you experience significant nipple sensitivity during pregnancy, nursing shells can soothe you.

Like an intimate shield, they will isolate the nipples from unpleasant external contact. They will also prevent the nipples from sticking to the bra or pads.

Towards the end of pregnancy, you may get a little gift from your body: droplets of colostrum which can wonderfully prepare and nourish your nipples before breastfeeding. If this is the case for you, don't hesitate to use them. It will also prevent your clothes from turning golden yellow.

How to position the shells?

There is no rule, it's up to you to experiment  to find the most comfortable position for you. Make sure your nipples are in contact with the inner surface of the shells. This will keep your milk in contact with the nipples, ensuring proper hydration for effective care.

Is it necessary to use nipple care cream in addition to nursing shells?

Nothing better than your hind milk, naturally fatty and ideal for nipple care.

It is also possible to use a cream in addition if your midwife or lactation consultant advises you to do so.  Be careful because the smell or taste of these creams can confuse the baby from your natural smell.

Is it possible to use nursing pads?

with nursing shells?

Yes.

Some women have a heavy flow of milk.

In this case, it is possible to place nursing pads over the nursing shells. Nursing shells collect small amounts of milk leakage, but this is not their main function.

How to clean nursing shells?

You can wash them with neutral soap in warm water.

You can also use a small sponge to remove any milk or cream deposits that may adhere to the inside of the shells.

It is possible to leave them to soak in a boiling water bath with soap.

Do not use vinegar, which is corrosive to the shell and removes all the shine from the polish.

Can I wear the nursing shells all day and night?

You can use your nursing shells whenever you feel the need, discomfort or great sensitivity on the nipples.

Once breastfeeding is established and feedings are pain-free, you don't have to wear them all the time.

Thanks to 20 years of experience, Bebe Nacre and I, Renata, have developed a know-how and a process of sanding and polishing by machine and by hand in order to guarantee you safe shells to use, with very soft, non-sharp, solid, chip-free and rounded edges.

We select thick and solid shells.

Our shells are guaranteed and we offer a free repair service if they ever break during your breastfeeding period.

How to use nursing shells?

After each feeding, generously spread a few drops of milk on the nipples and place the shells on the nipples, inside the bra. The shells can be positioned on the breast in the direction most comfortable for each person.

In case of heavy milk flow , it is possible to use pads

breastfeeding over the shells. The shells are compatible with the use of a fatty cream.

Mother-of-pearl can be used between feedings as a preventative measure or to treat cracked nipples and at any time when nipples are sensitive, even at night.

Women who have very sensitive or dry nipples can use mother-of-pearl for comfort before birth.

Mother-of-pearl should be washed daily with soap and hot water, and it is possible to leave it in boiling water with a little soap. Do not use vinegar.

In case of mycosis, it is important to pay careful attention to the hygiene of the shells. They can be used to isolate the infected breast from contact with clothing and keep the medical treatment away from the nipples.

Do not use a damaged shell. You can contact us for repair or exchange.

The shell is not a toy for babies.

BEBE NACRE Quality

We select the best shells one by one according to our quality criteria: solidity, thickness, beauty, ergonomics.
We pay particular attention to the smoothness of the contours so that the breasts are not injured. We also ensure that the shells are smooth inside. Shells that are not processed according to our quality standards can be sharp.

In our workshop in France, each of our shells is sanded and polished by hand, before being delicately slipped into their packaging in pairs. We have been working on the quality of our mother-of-pearl since 2006.

How was Baby Nacre born? How were the nursing shells born?

Since my studies at the Beaux Arts in Paris, I have been inspired by the different uses of precious objects associated with the female body. One day, a Danish friend told me that her mother had used shells she had found on the beach when she had her babies. I loved the idea and I looked for ergonomic shells adapted to the female morphology.

Since then, I have started to prepare handmade soft shells, first for my friends and now for all women.

Since it didn't exist, I invented a common name: "breastfeeding shells" and put information and instructions into words. This happened little by little. The support, advice, and observations of midwives, lactation consultants, and doctors nourished me throughout this adventure. At first, no one really saw the point; I was considered an eccentric.

Today, nursing shells are part of a set of effective tools for nipple care.

BEBE NACRE strives to produce impeccable nursing shells. We prioritize contact with our customers and distributors, offering personalized and easy-to-use after-sales service.

We do not intend to do mass distribution in order to preserve the quality of our product and direct contact with mothers.
